This study is. result of the cataract extraction performed in Jsonju Presbyterian Medical
Center for 171 cases, among which 131 have received intracapsular lens extraction by method of cryosurgery between Jan. -1973 and Jun. -1975.
The 16 of the 171 cases have developed vitreous comiplcations. A follow-up study has also been done for the 8 cases of them that received anterior vitrectomy and vitreous aspiration.
The results of the study are summarized as follows:
1) The types of cataracts were:
senile 66.1%
mtraumatic 12.9%
congenital 8.2 complicated 7.5%
others 5.3%
2) The incidence of operative complications were:
Vitreous prolapse and loss 9.4%
capsule rupture 7.0%
3) Early postoperative complications were:
striate keratitis 31.6%
hyphema 7.0%
up-drawn pupil 6.4%
vitreous bulging 4.7%
flat A/C 3.5%
conjunctival bleb 1.2%
4) Late postoperative complications were:
delayed wound healing 2.3%
macular edema 1. 2%
glaucoma 1.2%
retinal detachment 0.6%
uveitis c recurrent hyphema. 00.6-%
5) The results of managed by the method of anterior vitrectomy and vitreous aspiration for 8 cases were following: macular edema (1), localized corneal edema(1), and glaucoma with corneal edema (1). Visual results were 20/70 or better in 5 of the 8 cases.
